32 Awareness Workshops Targeting Employees and Members of Non-Profit Organisations
Ministry of Community Empowerment Strengthens Role of Non-Profit Organisations in Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing
In line with the National Strategy for combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (2024–2027), the Ministry of Community Empowerment is launching 32 awareness workshops running from September through December 2025.
Held under the theme “The Role of Non-Profit Organisations in Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing”, the workshops aim to build awareness, strengthen compliance, and develop the capacities of members and employees of Non-Profit Organisations. The workshops also underscore the Ministry’s commitment to empowering Non-Profit Organisations, enhancing their role in combating money laundering and terrorism financing, and aligning with the best international practices and FATF standards.
This effort further supports national priorities and consolidates the UAE’s position as a leading global financial and trade hub.
Sarah Almeheiri, Director of the Financial Audit and Compliance Department at the Ministry, stated: “This series of workshops is part of the UAE’s broader efforts to address potential financial challenges, strengthen the preparedness of non-profit organizations, and promote compliance and transparency, ahead of the upcoming FATF mutual evaluation in 2026.”
She added that the Ministry continues its efforts in line with Federal Decree-Law No. 50 of 2023 and its Executive Regulations governing Non-Profit Organisations, ensuring sustainable compliance and strong governance. These workshops also reflect the outcomes of the strategic meeting “Empowering 360”, which addressed sector challenges and opportunities while proposing innovative solutions to enhance performance and impact.
The workshops will be delivered in two phases: the first targeting board members with introductory sessions on Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing policy, supervisory responsibilities, and global governance practices; and the second designed for employees, accountants, auditors, and compliance officers, with practical training on internal controls, risk management, and due diligence policies.
