Dubai – Ministry of Community Empowerment – February 2025:
The Ministry of Community Empowerment and the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation (AGF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch transformative initiatives that enhance the skills and employability of beneficiaries under the UAE’s Social Welfare Program. The partnership will focus on skills development, workforce readiness, and sustainable employment pathways, reinforcing efforts to create a more inclusive and economically resilient society.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Aisha Yousef, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Community Empowerment, and Dr. Sonia Ben Jaafar, CEO of the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation, in the presence of H.E. Shamma bint Sohail Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Empowerment and H.E. Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, Chairman of the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation.
This partnership aligns with the UAE’s announcement of 2025 as the ‘Year of Community’ by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, under the theme ‘Hand in Hand’, which emphasizes the importance of collaboration, social responsibility, and community-driven progress. Through this initiative, the MOCE is expanding its partnerships with third-sector institutions to implement high-impact initiatives that empower individuals, strengthen social cohesion, and foster a culture of giving and responsibility.
Beyond skills training, the collaboration will drive joint research efforts to improve social development strategies, facilitate data-sharing initiatives, and host events and programs that elevate community engagement and sustainable development.
Dr. Sonia Ben Jaafar, CEO of AGF, reaffirmed the foundation's commitment to the UAE’s vision for social solidarity and sustainable impact. "In the spirit of the Year of Community, this partnership exemplifies how philanthropic organizations and government can collaborate to equip individuals with the skills and opportunities needed to contribute meaningfully to the economy and society. By delivering innovative educational solutions tailored to workforce demands, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also supporting national efforts to build a more inclusive and resilient future. Investing in youth and preparing them for the job markets it an investment in the UAE’s long-term prosperity and a key pillar for sustainable development.”
As part of its national strategy, the Ministry of Community Empowerment is dedicated to developing an integrated social development framework that promotes financial stability for low-income families, strengthens the role of public benefit organizations, and fosters a sustainable third sector that actively contributes to the UAE’s continued progress and prosperity.
