The Ministry of Community Development participated in the seminar "Monitoring the Implementation of the Arab Strategy for Older Persons: Opportunities and Challenges," held in the Sultanate of Oman from November 6 to 7, 2024. The seminar discussed care and protection services provided to older persons, identified challenges in implementing the strategy, and explored ways to leverage available resources.
The seminar was organized by the Omani Ministry of Social Development, in partnership with the Social Affairs Sector of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs at the Arab League, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Regional Office for Arab States, HelpAge International, and the Gulf Statistics Center.
The event featured four working sessions, during which the Ministry’s delegation presented the extensive efforts undertaken by the United Arab Emirates to protect, care for, and empower senior citizens. The presentation highlighted Federal Law No. (9) of 2019 on the Rights of Senior Citizens, as well as the National Policy for Senior Citizens, launched in October 2018, which aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for this vital segment of society. The delegation also showcased key initiatives and programs launched by the Ministry to provide social, healthcare, psychological, and recreational services for senior citizens, ensuring their well-being and quality of life.
