The Umm Al Quwain Customer Happiness Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Community Empowerment, is hosting the “Liwan Al Mawajeeb” Festival in celebration of Mid-Sha’ban, a cherished occasion deeply rooted in Emirati society. Held from 2 to 8 February, the festival is organized with the participation of several local and private entities and features notable community figures, reflecting the strong social cohesion and unity that features the UAE community.
The festival embodies authentic Emirati values, where social occasions are considered not just as celebrations, but as bridges between generations that nurture a sense of belonging and national identity. In this spirit, “Liwan Al Mawajeeb” offers a diverse programs and activities across both morning and evening periods, featuring events and experiences designed for all age groups and aligned with the aspirations of Emirati families in a vibrant, inclusive festive atmosphere.
The festival includes a photography corner and a mini museum showcasing vintage photography tools, alongside traditional Emirati foods that evoke the flavors of the past with a contemporary touch. Twenty-one entrepreneurs from Emirati families are also participating, enhancing their presence within the community and supporting their economic engagement through nationally themed events.
Volunteers play a prominent role in organizing the festival, particularly students from Umm Al Quwain University, along with several local entities. Their contributions of time and expertise have been instrumental to the success of the event, reflecting the culture of giving and volunteerism within the community.
The opening day featured a carnival parade that began at Sharjah American School and proceeded to the Center, with wide community participation. The parade included heritage-themed carts distributing Mid-Sha’ban sweets and live appearances by cartoon characters, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
Hosting the “Liwan Al Mawajeeb” Festival underscores the Ministry of Community Empowerment’s commitment to reviving social occasions that strengthen national identity and create interactive spaces that bring families together in a spirit of participation and belonging. It also highlights the importance of partnerships with local and private entities in achieving sustainable social impact.
